Delicious Apple Pie Recipe

Apple Pie

Making an apple pie from scratch can seem daunting, but with this easy recipe, you’ll be enjoying a homemade pie in no time. The combination of a buttery crust and sweet apple filling is simply irresistible. So put on your apron and let’s get started!

Ingredients:
– 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
– 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
– ¼ cup ice water
– 8 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
– ½ cup granulated sugar
– ¼ cup brown sugar
– 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
– 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
– ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
– ¼ teaspoon salt
– 1 tablespoon lemon juice
– 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
– 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (for sprinkling)

Step 1: Prepare the crust
Start by making the pie crust. In a large bowl, combine the flour and cubed butter. Using a pastry cutter or your hands, cut the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add the ice water and mix until the dough comes together. Divide the dough into two equal portions, shape into disks, and wrap in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

Step 2: Prepare the filling
Meanwhile, in another bowl, mix together the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and lemon juice. Toss the apples until evenly coated in the spiced sugar mixture. Set aside.

Step 3: Roll out the crust
After the dough has chilled, remove one disk from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes to soften slightly. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough into a circle large enough to fit into a 9-inch pie dish. Gently transfer the dough to the pie dish, pressing it into the bottom and up the sides.

Step 4: Assemble the pie
Pour the apple filling into the prepared pie crust, spreading it out evenly. Take the second disk of dough from the refrigerator and roll it out into another circle. You can either cover the pie with a full crust, cutting slits in the top for ventilation, or create a lattice pattern by cutting the dough into strips and weaving them over the filling. Press the edges of the top and bottom crusts together to seal.

Step 5: Bake and enjoy
Brush the top of the pie with the beaten egg wash and sprinkle with granulated sugar. Place the pie on a baking sheet to catch any drips and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 45-55 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling. Allow the pie to cool for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the filling to set.
